Laguna Beach Real Estate Photographer: Last week I had the pleasure of photographing a beautifully staged multi million dollar home in the hills of Laguna Beach. Deborah Muccillo from Interiors Within Reach did an amazing job of staging the home. She really did a fantastic job giving it a whimsical yet elegant beachy feeling.

Real Estate and Architectural photography shoots like this seem easy on the surface but require perfect camera angles to show off the real estate and architecture at its best. The ability to balance ambient light and fill in the shadows with off camera flash slaved with radio triggers needs to be handled gently so the ambiance and character of the rooms and furnishings are enhanced and not over powered by artificial light.

My goal is to always show clean images that do two things: 1: Show of the details of the home staging, and 2: Make the real estate and architecture desirable to a potential client.

Clean, Natural Crisp | Laguna Real Estate Photographer: Things to keep in mind are soft light that is bounced off surfaces behind, to the right of the camera or to the left of the camera. Never direct flash. Many photographer use HDR photography for Real Estate and Architectural interiors. While there is nothing wrong with this fast approach technique. HDR {High dynamic-range imaging} does not / will not yield clean, natural, crisp Real Estate and Architectural interior images like these.

Effective Use of HDR: That being said, carful use of HDR is used for the all the outdoor images. During morning and high noon there is simply too much contrast between the shadows and highlights. The dynamic range during this time of day is so great that our eyes can capture the scene but not a camera. So what needs to happen is three to five different exposures {bracketing of shots} are taken and blended {tone mapped} together to create a rich image that will show all the tones in the scene without blowing out the highlights and blocking up the shadows. As a result you get the best all the tonal ranges available that can not be captured in a single frame.

Kitchens are often the place home buyers resonate most with. After all its the nerve center of the home. Often they are the most difficult to photograph. This kitchen required five speedlights to light, due to the single window and the south west exposure. A bounce umbrella camera left in a 40′ umbrella, 3 speedlights strategically hidden on three sides of the island and one more hidden behind the right side of the french door refrigerator. ISO 320 / f 7.1 / 1/60th sec.
