Headshot Photography FAQ

Everything attorneys, CPAs, physicians and dentists in Los Angeles and Orange County want to know before booking their professional headshot session with Marc Weisberg.

Attorneys & Law Firms

Do I really need a professional headshot as an attorney? +

In the legal industry, trust isn't just important, it's the entire product. Before a potential client ever reads your bio, reviews your case results, or schedules a consultation, they've already formed an opinion about you. Research shows that only 22% of Americans find lawyers trustworthy. Your headshot is often your first, and best, chance to change that perception before anyone speaks a word. A well-crafted attorney headshot communicates authority, approachability, and credibility around the clock, on your firm website, your Avvo profile, your Martindale-Hubbell listing, LinkedIn, and every directory where your name appears.

Can you come to our law firm to photograph the entire team? +

Absolutely, and it's my preferred way to work with law firms. I come to your office with full professional studio lighting and create a consistent, cohesive look across your entire team in a single session. No scheduling chaos, no mismatched backgrounds, no one looking different from everyone else on your website. I've worked with firms ranging from solo practitioners to large multi-partner offices throughout Orange County and Los Angeles, including a full branding refresh for a 30-attorney team in Irvine.

What makes a great attorney headshot? +

The best attorney headshots project three things simultaneously: authority, approachability, and authenticity. For litigation and corporate attorneys, dark structured suits in navy or charcoal project authority while a carefully crafted expression balances confidence with approachability. For family law, estate planning, and personal injury attorneys, clients in emotionally charged situations are looking for someone who feels safe, not intimidating. After 26 years photographing attorneys across Orange County, Los Angeles, San Diego and Southern California, I understand these distinctions deeply. None of it happens by accident, and none of it happens with a smartphone photo or a generalist photographer.

When should an attorney get new headshots? +

In my experience, the right moments are: making partner or launching a firm, a website redesign or rebrand, new directory listings such as Super Lawyers or Best Lawyers, a LinkedIn business development push, or moving into a new practice area or client segment. A simple rule: your headshot should match the clients you're pursuing, not the clients you had five years ago. If someone walks into a meeting and doesn't immediately recognize you from your headshot, it's time.

CPAs & Accounting Firms

Why does a CPA need a professional headshot? +

Your clients are trusting you with their finances, often their most private and consequential decisions. A polished, professional headshot communicates the same care, precision, and trustworthiness they expect from your work. Whether you're a solo practitioner building a referral-based practice or part of a multi-partner accounting firm, your headshot on your website, LinkedIn, and professional directory listings is working for you around the clock, even when you're deep in tax season.

When is the best time for a CPA to schedule a headshot session? +

Timing matters more for CPAs than almost any other profession. The window between the end of tax season in April and the early summer slowdown is ideal, you've just come through the most demanding stretch of the year and have the breathing room to focus on your brand and business development. I work with CPAs and accounting firms throughout Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange County year-round, and I can build a session schedule that works around your busiest periods. The earlier you book, the more flexibility we have.

I've never liked how I look in photos. Can you still get a great headshot of me? +

This is the most common thing I hear, from CPAs, attorneys, physicians and executives alike. Making you look and feel great in front of a camera is genuinely my superpower. It starts before you ever arrive: I'll guide you on wardrobe and, if needed, connect you with hair and makeup professionals who understand professional photography lighting and what reads well on camera. On the day I bring professional studio lighting to your office and use a process specifically designed to help people relax, look natural, and project confidence, even if you've never liked a photo of yourself in your life. Leave it to me.

Can you photograph our entire accounting firm in one session? +

Yes, and it's the most efficient way to get a consistent, cohesive look across your entire team. I come to your office with full professional lighting and build a precise schedule in advance so client meetings and workflows are never disrupted. Each person typically needs 20 to 30 minutes. The result is a unified set of images that works seamlessly across your website, LinkedIn profiles, and any marketing materials, with everyone looking like they belong to the same firm.

Physicians & Medical Groups

Why do physicians need a professional headshot? +

Patients in Southern California, Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange County have options, dozens of them. Research from Princeton University shows that judgments of trustworthiness happen in as little as 100 milliseconds. Before a prospective patient ever calls your office, requests an appointment on Zocdoc, or clicks through your Healthgrades profile, they've already made a preliminary judgment about you, and a significant portion of that judgment comes from a single photograph. In a market as competitive as Orange County's, where Hoag, CHOC, UCI Health, and hundreds of private practices compete for the same patients, your headshot is often the difference between a click and a scroll.

What is the unique challenge of a physician headshot? +

A physician needs to do something harder than most professionals, project calm authority and genuine warmth at the same time. Light that's too dramatic reads as cold. An expression that's too formal feels clinical and distant. A pose that's too relaxed undermines the competence signal patients need to feel confident booking an appointment. The physician headshot is one of the most technically demanding portraits in the professional category, not because it requires the most complexity, but because the margin for error is so small. When it's done right, patients look at it and feel immediately at ease.

Can you photograph our entire medical group in one session? +

Yes, I come on-site to medical groups and multi-physician practices and photograph the entire team in a single coordinated session. I bring full professional studio lighting to your office or clinic so there's no disruption to patient appointments. Most physicians are photographed in under 30 minutes. I've worked with physicians across Orange County, Los Angeles and San Diego including primary care, surgical specialties, dermatology, and cosmetic medicine and I deliver a consistent, cohesive look across every member of your team.

What should a physician wear for a professional headshot? +

Most physicians choose between a white coat over professional attire, or business professional without a white coat, depending on the tone they want to project. A white coat reads clinical and authoritative, ideal for hospital profiles and specialist pages. Business attire without a white coat reads warm and approachable, often preferred for concierge practices, cosmetic medicine, and direct-to-patient marketing. I recommend bringing both options so we can capture the full range. After booking I'll send a detailed wardrobe guide with specific recommendations.

Dentists & Dental Practices

Why does a dentist need a professional headshot? +

Patients choose their dentist the same way they choose a restaurant, a hotel, or a contractor, by what they see online before they ever make contact. Google Business Profiles with professional photography receive three times more views than those without. Your profile photo is frequently the very first element a prospective patient sees, before your reviews, before your services, before your location. More than a third of patients experience dental anxiety. A warm, confident, professionally crafted portrait tells an anxious patient, visually and immediately, that they are going to be in good hands.

Should a dentist smile in their professional headshot? +

In most cases yes, and the reason goes beyond aesthetics. If a dentist's headshot portrays a lack of confidence in their own smile, how can they inspire confidence in their patients? A warm, genuine smile communicates exactly the kind of experience patients are hoping for before they walk in the door. That said, the right expression depends on the tone of your practice. A cosmetic dentist targeting high-end clientele in Newport Beach or Laguna Beach may prefer a more refined, composed look. I'll guide you through multiple expressions during your session so you have options that work across different contexts and platforms.

Do you come to our dental office to photograph the team? +

Yes, I photograph dentists and dental teams entirely on location at your practice. I bring professional studio-quality lighting to your office so your images look polished and consistent without anyone leaving the building. For solo practitioners this is a straightforward 30-60 minute session depending if you want to also add lifestyle branding to your session. For multi-dentist practices I build a detailed schedule around your patient flow so there's no interruption to your day. The result is a cohesive set of images that works across your website, Google Business Profile, Yelp, Healthgrades, and all marketing materials.

General Questions

What should I wear for my headshot session? +

For attorneys, CPAs, physicians, dentists and executives I recommend solid colors over patterns, and clothing that reflects how you actually show up to meet clients. Classic navy, charcoal, and deep jewel tones photograph exceptionally well. Avoid busy prints, loud logos, and anything you wouldn't wear to an important client meeting. Once you book I'll send you a detailed wardrobe guide with specific recommendations, and I'm always available beforehand to give personal feedback on specific outfit options.

Do you provide hair and makeup for headshot sessions? +

I can connect you with trusted hair and makeup professionals who understand professional photography lighting and what reads well on camera. Proper hair and makeup makes a significant difference in the final result, especially under studio lighting, and I always recommend it. That said, it's entirely your choice. Many of my clients come camera-ready on their own. However a professional HMUA makes the largest difference overall. After booking we'll discuss what makes the most sense for your session.

What is the difference between a headshot and a personal branding session? +

A headshot is a single strong portrait, your face, your presence, your professional identity distilled into one image. A personal branding session goes further: it tells the story of how you work. For attorneys and executives, physicians and dentists, that might mean images at your desk, in a meeting, reviewing documents, or in conversation or consult with your patients, images that communicate your environment, your process, and your personality. Together they give you a complete visual library for your website, LinkedIn, speaking engagements, and media appearances.

How long does a professional headshot session take? +

For solo practitioners this is a straightforward 30-60 minute session. Long enough to try multiple looks and let you relax into the camera, but focused enough that we're not wasting your time. For group sessions at law firms, medical practices, and accounting firms, I build a detailed schedule in advance so each person knows exactly when to show up and how long they'll be needed. Most professionals are in and out in under 30 minutes during a team session.

How often should I update my professional headshot? +

For most professionals I recommend updating every 2 to 3 years, or sooner if there's a significant change in your appearance, a career milestone such as making partner or launching a practice, a website redesign, or a new client segment you're pursuing. Your headshot is a living part of your professional brand, it should grow with your career. A simple test: if someone walks into a meeting and doesn't immediately recognize you from your headshot, it's time for a new one.
