Newport Beach Children’s Pictures | Fun Family Photography

Spring Time Family Portraits in Newport Beach.

This is my favorite time of year to photograph family portraits in Newport Beach. Everything is in full bloom and the colors are amazing. When children are age 2 they are a powerhouse of energy. And it is near impossible to get them to remain in the same spot for more than a few seconds. It’s like Newton’s second law of gravity or something.

Scarlett is no different than any other two year old. Except that she makes the best unprompted monkey faces, has an amazing Demi Moore kind’a voice, a hysterical laugh and is super fast on her feet. She kept her mom and dad very busy running after her.

undefined undefined undefined undefined undefined Ava is 3.5 years old has a great smile and beautiful blue eyes and a funny laugh. She asked me to take a picture of her hugging a tree.

At one point Ava looked up at the sky and saw the moon rising and got a sad face. I asked her what was wrong. She told me that the moon was out and the day was almost over. Its amazing how a child’s mind thinks. Children live in the moment and live for the day. We can all learn from that.

P.S. Note to all Moms: The photos above are a classic example of Mom picking out the perfect outfits and accessories with great colors and wonderful textures to show off her daughter’s personalities.

San Juan Capistrano | Coto de Caza

Family Portrait

Mission San Juan Capistrano Family Portrait Sessions | “Intertwined”

Almost three years ago, 0ne of my favorite families from Coto de Caza came out to the Mission San Juan Capistrano for a Family Portrait session. Lori and Michael are amazing parents and Lori is a tireless community volunteer. Lori recently referred me to one of her friends (you can see the post here), and Melanie told me she aspires to be more like “Lori, a true giver.” The image below was created at the Mission San Juan Capistrano, a special place to visit and an amazing backdrop for family portraits, engagement sessions and weddings. As a matter of fact I was just at the Mission San Juan Capistrano this weekend photographing family and bridal portraits for a wedding close by.

Lori & Michael proudly hang their thirty inch framed canvas family portrait over their fire place mantle. I’m looking forward to photographing their gorgeous family again this summer.

P.S. This family portrait is also on display at my studio and get allot of comments. Almost everyone who see it tells me that they want one just like it.

P.P.S. Oops….we broke all the rules. Notice that there is no matching clothing.

Laguna Beach Children & Family Photographer | Alison Creek Inn & Canyon Lodge Portraits

Laguna Beach Children & Family Photography

Photographed on Location at Salt Creek Golf Club, Laguna Beach

After living in Laguna Beach for a bit more than 16 years I’ve passed by Alison Creek Inn & Golf Club {formerly Ben Brown’s} hundreds of time. But I never would have guessed how absolutely gorgeous it is. The pristine golf course is situated in a large walled in canyon a combination of Alison & Woods Canyon surround the course’s hills dotted with oaks and an abundance of chaparral. Its one of the most beautiful places in Laguna Beach for children and family photography. Britten is 15 and Drake is 10, both of them were so cool and fun to photograph.

undefined LOve these. Reminds me of images from an African safari.

Spring Break in Monterey

We had a blast on our road trip to Carmel by the Sea and the Monterey Pennisula. Met some great people, eat well and drank some great Talbott Chardonnay. As a matter of fact, I joined the Talbott Wine Club and am eagerly awaiting my May shippment 3 choice bottles of their juice! Two of our most memorable meals was at The Sardine Factory in Monterey and Belle in Carmel by the Sea. Carmel by the Sea is one of our favorite places to visit. The town is really safe for the kids. It was their first time wandering off on their own, with cell phone in hand of course. A short drive away are the gorgeous beaches of Asilomar on the Monterey coast and of course a bunch of wineries to visit too.

undefined undefined undefined undefined undefined undefined Getting schooled by Sardines. undefined I’ve always wanted to make some cool images of Jellies. This was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. Spent about thirty minutes photographing them. Came away with a few hundred images. Deadly but graceful creatures. undefined undefined undefined
undefined undefined There was an amazing exhibit of Pink Flamingos. undefined undefined At Asilomar, there is a way, at low tide, to walk out about a quarter mile on the rocks and get to a spot where there are nesting birds. At first I thought that they were Terns, but they’re not. Maybe some kind of goose or duck? Anyway the females were carefully guarding their nests. One got up for a second and we could see a single egg underneath her. They seemed not to mind us to much. A bit of honking at times but nothing aggressive. undefined It was a relatively calm day on the ocean. On previous trips we’ve experienced angry seas with waves crashing into the rocks and shooting forty feet in the air. undefined Looking back {image below} from the ocean towards Asilomar golf course.
undefined To break up our trip home, we drove from Carmel, about 2 hours towards San Luis Obispo and stayed in Arroyo Grande for the evening. It was fiercely windy in Grover Beach, just south of Pismo and SLO. The Tide was high. At low tide we could drive on the beach to the dunes. But, because of the incoming tide, the park ranger advised us not to try crossing a casam of inlet water that was about 7-8 inches deep. Just deep enough to keep our BMW as a permanent beach fixutre. So we needed to hike it in about 1.5 miles to the dunes. Connie wasn’t keen on it, but I was determined to do it for Emerson and Claire.

The air was filled with sand. I could feel the grit of sand in my mouth and when I bit down. Wasn’t sure I’d be able to photograph. Surely, there would be no lens changing going on. I did manage to grab a few images to show how fiercely the wind was blowing. Its a good thing that we weren’t in the desert because our footprints would vanish in a matter of minutes. Mother nature would make sure of that. undefined undefined undefined undefined undefined undefined undefined A battle ensued, between the birds. This guy was terrorizing some of the nesting moms.
