Pippy the Toy Poodle

Blueyedawg Irvine Pet Photographer

Yes its true, we do have a sister site Blueyedawg dot com. While it is true that I photograph, children, families, commercial, architecture, food, travel and editorial work I also love animals so I started a pet photography business. While all these genres fit neatly under the umbrella of photography, why limit myself?

Recently had the pleasure of photographing Pippy the Toy Poodle over on our sister site, Blueyedawg Irvine Pet Photographer. Below is the album that we created for her momma Cathy. Pippy’s 8×12″ album is covered in blue silk, with 20 pages containing 4 double page 12×16″ spreads. This morning I delivered it to Cathy, and it brought her to tears. She told me:

“You captured Pippy’s personality and her parti coloring just perfectly.” ~ Cathy Cottrill, Cost Mesa

You’d never now that Pippy is an older dog. She runs like the wind.

Irvine Children’s Portraits Used in Community Advertising Campaign

If you are a long time followr of my blog, you know that I’ve been working with Tarbut V’Torah, an amazing Jewish school in Irvine, California for a number of years. Below is a very well thought out design using my Irvine children’s portraits for a community advertising campaign Tarbut recently produced. Its simply great seeing my Irvine children’s portraits used in a community advertising campaign that benefits the Jewish community and the lives of future generations of children.

This is the final episode of blog posts on the Jewish World War II Veterans I photographed for the 75th Jubilee of the Jewish War Veterans in Culver City, Los Angeles. To memorialize these heroes I set up a on location portable studio. The studio consisted of a 3’x4′ Chimera soft box, a 7 foot Westcott silver umbrella with diffuser on the front, both powered by ProPhoto heads and triggered by my trusty Pocket Wizard Plus III’s. It was important to me to make dignified portraits that showed each World War II veteran at their best. There is nothing like a grey backdrop and gorgeous, flattering studio light to do the job. I’m not sure where these will end up but I’m committed to it being part of a larger project which will also include Holocaust survivors of which I’ve only photographed a few. So if you are reading this and know of a Holocaust survivor who would like to be photographed and you’d like to put me in touch with them I’d be honored to have a conversation with them. Ultimately I’d like these to be shown large and in a gallery to somehow benefit a Jewish organization or privately fund a project for one or more veterans and survivors.

Below is a picture of Bea. One hundred and four years old. Although she is not quite sure, maybe one hundred and five. What the heck, I’d lose count too. She can still get around with a cane. But I held out my arm like a gentleman to escort her my on location studio. She is warm hearted, witty, has a warm smile, warm heart and warm hands. She is reported to be the oldest living female veteran in California and possibly the world.

Below top left: Colonel Maxwell S. Colon, Army (Ret.), NYC Correction Captain (Ret.) and Penologist. Col. Colon and I had a brief talk. I was honored to receive a rare pin from him in recognition of my service at their 75th Jubilee. The pin he gave me is from one of the only Jewish synagogues on and military base. I was beyond honored to receive this gift from him and it totally made my day. Below: Col. Colon is Mr. Alan Miliefsky a retired Navy man who put me in touch with the Jewish War Veterans group. I met Mr. Mileifsky at a Jewish function in Irvine and through conversation let him know that I was interested in photographing WWII and Holocaust survivors. He passed my card on to Mr. Hoffman. Mr. Miliefsky is a happy soul enjoying his retirement and soon to be married.

Director Gary Marshall | Korean War Veteran

Black and White Portraits of Director Gary Marshall

Imagine my surprise as proceedings are underway and the emcee introduces iconic actor, T.V., movie and film producer Gary Marshall. Gotta admit I was a bit awe struck. After all I grew up watching his TV shows. Happy Days, The Odd Couple, Laverne and Shirley, Mork and Mindy, The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Lucy Show to name a few. I was blessed to create some natural light black and white portraits of director Gary Marshall.

I walked over to Mr. Marshall and respectfully introduced myself and told him that …. “I grew up watching all his shows.” He immediately introduced me to his wife Barbara {married since 1963}. He was just a regular Joe, fitting in with all the other WWII Jewish veterans. That was until he took the podium and started telling stories about show bizz and Korea. He had the audience in stitches. Call me slow, but I didn’t put 2+2 together and figure out that acclaimed actor and director Penny is his sister. Penny Marshall.

Mr. Marshall and other Jewish War Veterans were bestowed with medals by the Korean Consulate General, the Honorable Yeon Sung Shin for their service in the Korean War at the 75th Jubilee of the Jewish War Veterans.

Never, ever seen so many pristine roses in one spot in our lives. The air was thick with the scent of roses and it was visual sensory overload. There were pink, purple, red, candy cane striped, orange, white, yellow, every color of the rainbow roses in Portland’s free to visit International Rose Test Garden. Which incidently is located adjacent to one of the largest and most pristine Japanese Gardens we’ve ever seen.
